Meet Psarah Johnson
A self-identifying “cripplepunk,” Psarah Johnson is a community activist who was born with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis and since then has spent her life collecting autoimmune disorders.
Besides the addition of Psarah’s obituary and her one-woman show highlighting the intimate struggles of chronic illness, “Matchstick Theory,” her website remains largely as it was at the time of her passing.

Psarah Johnson is a knowledgeable professional that has advised our organization on how to provide better accessibility for the attendees of our Annual Craft Lake CIty DIY Festival. I would absolutely recommend working with her.
Psarah is a dynamic speaker with a passion for the rights for people with disabilities. What I most like about Psarah and her advocacy style is her keen ability to weave humor into her talks which then really drive home the points she is emphasizing. You will not find a more informed and cogent speaker who will inspire you to recognize and incorporate the important perspectives of this community in your work and personal lives.
It has been a pleasure working with Psarah over the years in my role as Vice President of Public Policy at Planned Parenthood. She has helped me and my team to advance our understanding of how to make our events more accessible and open to all supporters.
Ms. Johnson is deeply passionate about advocating for the disability community. She is a powerful voice for deinstitutionalization, equality and empowerment. I have long admired her command of communication skills – she is dynamic, engaged, direct and has a great ability to connect with her audience. She is a hands-on, real leader who dedicates herself to eliciting positive change in our community.
PERSONAL STATEMENT
Having been born disabled at a time when no pediatricians and few rheumatologists even considered arthritis a childhood condition, one could say I have been a lifelong and passionate disability advocate and pioneer. After all, it was an act of defiance when, as an infant, I refused to do the prescribed exercises for cerebral palsy.
